MAORI KAWHIA KAI FESTIVAL IN HAMILTON WAIKATO

ARRIVAL - February 8, 2014
- The Kawhia Kai Festival offers a coastal celebration of Maori food and culture
- Arrive in Omiti Park Reserve in time for the Kawhia Kai Festival (02/08/14)
- Join the festival in the Park Reserve

FIRST EVENT - TRIBAL FOOD BINGE (DETOUR)
- Both team members must eat least two full plates of five different kinds of Maori traditional cuisine
- Challenge dishes must include at least half a plate of Huhu grubs
- Grubs must be eaten without sauces or condiments
- Eat slowly - vomiting will result in disqualification

SECOND EVENT - BRAVE THE TE KAURI BUSH WALK (ROADBLOCK)
- Arrive at Te Kauri Lodge. One partner will brave the bush walk, the other will stay behind
- Play rock paper scissors to determine the Bush Walker, best 2 out of 3 stays safe in the lodge
- Complete the swingbridge descent and follow signs for the Sheep Track
- Climb the Sheep Track steps to the viewing area. Snap a picture and descend to the Lodge.
- Proceed to the next event

THIRD EVENT - EEL WRANGLING (DETOUR)
- In nearby Eel Dorado, off of Highway 31, catch and feed eels
- Hand-feed eels in their native environment in order to gain their trust
- Capture and release at least one dozen eels
- Proceed to complete your Amazing Race Challenge
